Treatment Modalities
I utilize evidence-based practices to equip you with concrete tools that will facilitate change in your life. Together we will discover how unhelpful patterns are being maintained and new strategies that will move you towards the life you envision. Below are details about my specialties.
DBT
Dialectical behavior therapy is a skills based modality that focuses on 4 major categories: emotional regulation, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. These skills focus on effective coping rather than engaging in unhealthy behaviors. DBT is appropriate for people who have borderline personality disorder, suicidal thoughts, self harm urges or behaviors, and intense emotional dysregulation. DBT can also be helpful for other mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and relationship issues.
DBT PE
Dialectical behavior therapy - prolonged exposure is an evidence based modality intended for people who have completed stage 1 DBT and need additional trauma work. Many people who need DBT have also experienced significant trauma and benefit from prolonged exposure. Prolonged exposure includes retelling trauma narratives to decrease distress and triggers related to past trauma. An extensive assessment and plan is created prior to clients beginning this type of therapy.
Mindfulness
Developing a mindfulness practice can reduce stress and increase feelings of satisfaction. Mindfulness skills focus on being in the present moment, without judgement. Mindfulness allows us to observe thoughts and emotions with acceptance and curiosity. Mindfulness can reduce anxiety and negative self talk, while increasing feelings of contentment, gratitude, and acceptance.
CBT
Cognitive behavior therapy helps address any core beliefs or longstanding thoughts that may be getting in the way. CBT is effective at treating anxiety, depression, and increasing self-esteem.
MSC
Mindful self-compassion focuses on developing a sense of empathy, validation, and acceptance towards yourself. This modality is helpful with reducing feelings of anger and resentment and increasing feelings of inner peace.
ACT
Acceptance and commitment therapy strives to find creative ways to get “unstuck” and increase mental resiliency.
