 Issues I Treat

Chronic stress and anxiety – Anxiety is currently one of the most prevalent mental health issues. Trying to juggle the stress of everyday life can take a toll on your mind and body. Anxiety can often shrink your world and cause avoidance of certain people or places. Therapy can help if you are looking for more balance in your life and a way to navigate ongoing stress or anxiety.

Traumatic invalidation – Did you grow up in an environment where your feelings were dismissed? Traumatic invalidation occurs when the people around you communicate that your feelings are unreasonable or unacceptable. This may include overt messages like “you’re being dramatic”, “it’s not a big deal”, or covert messages like the sense that you aren’t allowed to talk about your feelings. Over time traumatic invalidation can breed self-doubt, intense emotions/mood swings, or the belief that something is wrong with you. One of my specialties is helping people recover from traumatic invalidation and create a sense of emotional security within themselves.

BPD – People with borderline personality disorder may experience emotion dysregulation, chronic feelings of emptiness, challenges in relationships, or suicidal thoughts and self-harm. People with emotion dysregulation experience emotions more intensely than the average person and have a hard time returning to their baseline after a big feeling. This emotional sensitivity can be a strength and come with extra challenges. I help people find gratitude for this part of themselves while utilizing coping skills to regulate emotions when necessary.  Dialectical behavior therapy is the most effective approach for treating BPD and changing these behavioral patterns.

Relationship Issues - I have extensive experience helping my clients gain insight and improve their relationships. Whether it’s romantic, friendships, or family relationships, interpersonal issues can be a primary source of stress. Learning more about your attachment styles and communication can provide a map to change in healthy and sustainable ways. I’ve helped many clients feel more satisfied with their relationships and improve long standing family dynamics.

Life Transitions – Life is always evolving, whether it’s the end of a relationship or the start of a new job. In these moments when things feel uncertain or ever-changing therapy can be a safe haven to find your footing.
